This feels like a DTV sequel you would’ve found exists years later made by entirely different people with an all new cast except somehow the cast from the original are all present here. All of the interiority and life from the first are gone. Gina Prince-Bythewood is one of our most underrated action directors because the scrub they have directing this one is terrible. The fights are immediately worse, save for an ok moment in an alley between Charlize Theron and Veronica Ngo.
On that tip, Veronica Ngo gives a performance this absolutely does not deserve. One of the best we have. Great actor, great martial artist. It’s such a bummer she’s not massive over here.
