I’ve been dying to tell literally anyone about this movie for a fucking month. Boyle is one of my all time guys but Jesus, I haven’t been this taken aback by one of his for quite some time. Swerves in the ways that matter becoming a shockingly, profoundly moving (and funny!) treatise on the acceptance of death and learning to move forward, not just through the grief of a loved one but through what you thought your nation might’ve been via indoctrination or propaganda or whatever else. It’s pretty special. I found myself kinda sobbing through the last act and hadn’t realized it was happening.
I think this might be Ralph Fiennes’s all time best performance. Boyle and ADM work genuine magic all over again, that iPhone rig is brain breaking. That stuff with the arrows had me jump out of my chair the first time it happened.
Adored this. It’s so good to have this Boyle back.
